Interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS — the third confirmed object from outside our solar system — made its closest approach to Earth today, Dec. 19, passing harmlessly at about 1.8 AU while NASA and other observatories released new close-up images and data for rapid study by scientists worldwide[6][4].
